Sues "Autumn Birches" recently won first place in the Art-Naturescape category at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX (November 2010). She attended the festival, not knowing what award she had won, and was excited to learn she had taken first place. Click the image at the left for more pictures from the event.
This quilt has an interesting background. It was originally commissioned by a client in the eastern United States. But the client called one day and said that her interior decorator had made some changes, and wondered if Sue could remove most of the gold! Instead, Sue made her a new quilt, and secretly was happy to keep this one for herself. You now know why! It also won 2nd place at the AQS show in Des Moines, IA.
A close up and detail of Autumn Birches (originally called Golden Birches) can be seen here in the Gallery. All of the IQA winners can be seen at the IQA website.
